  2.                TBB: The Bread Board File Distribution System
  3.                   General Information - updated 19 May 94

  5. The Bread Board File Distribution System (TBB) was created for the explicit
  6. purpose of providing a service to operators of The Bread Board System*
  7. (TBBS) Information Manager, a product of eSoft, Inc., (c) Philip L. Becker.
  8.  
  9. As of this writing, TBB FDN consists of the following file areas:
  10.  
  11. AREA: TBB_APPS - Public Domain, Freeware, and Shareware applications
  12.  
  13.     This area is designed for distribution of fully functional software
  14.     applications, including both those that are specific to TBBS and its
  15.     related option modules, as well as those that while not specifically
  16.     designed for use with TBBS do in fact prove useful to its operators.
  17.  
  18. AREA: TBB_DEMO - Demonstration programs, not fully functional
  19.  
  20.     This area is designed for distribution of demonstration packages that
  21.     are in some manner less than fully functional, but for which fully
  22.     functional versions may be obtained by registration.
  23.  
  24. AREA: TBB_INFO - Text, Info, and Help files, as well as TBB FDN admin info
  25.  
  26.     This area is designed primarily for text, information, and help files
  27.     that may be of general interest, including such items as tips and
  28.     techniques, "how I did it", etc.  This area may also include catalogs
  29.     and current price lists from various sources including third party
  30.     authors, distributors, and/or commercial vendors.  Extended descriptions
  31.     and information text about files distributed in other areas may also
  32.     appear here as they are made available, and the area will also be used
  33.     for such FDN administrative information as may be necessary from time to
  34.     time.
  35.  
  36. AREA: TBB_SUBS - Upstream to TBB FDN Headquarters for distribution
  37.  
  38.     This area is to be used for submissions upstream to TBB FDN headquarters
  39.     for distribution.  See additional information below concerning
  40.     submissions.
  41.  
  42. ECHO: TBB4SALE - Administrative conference, including announcements.
  43.  
  44.     This is the adminstrative echomail conference for this FDN, as well as
  45.     an "open market" for advertisements from or of interest to TBBS system
  46.     operators.  For complete information, see TBB4SALE.RUL included within
  47.     the same archive as this file.
  48.  
  49. SUBMISSIONS:
  50.  
  51.     It is preferred that all submissions be made by the developers/authors
  52.     of the application/information to be distributed.  It is understood that
  53.     this may not be possible in all cases, especially those which are
  54.     "adopted" from other software platforms.  In these instances, any
  55.     submission *must* include an information file with the name and valid
  56.     network address of the submitter and a statement of the status of the
  57.     program - public domain, freeware, shareware, or commercial with open
  58.     distribution allowed.
  59.  
  60.     Applications or text files of any kind that may be considered to be
  61.     illegal will NOT be distributed.  Those who submit such files will be
  62.     asked to immediately cease such activity, and may also be reported to
  63.     appropriate law enforcement agencies.  This restriction specifically
  64.     includes any transfer of hacked, pirated, or otherwise illegally
  65.     obtained items, as well as any programs or text that contains material
  66.     that may be considered to be pornographic in nature.
  67.  
  68.     Submission may be accomplished via:
  69.  
  70.     1)  Use of the TBB_SUBS upward file distribution chain.  This is the
  71.         preferred method.
  72.  
  73.     2)  Fidonet compatible file transfer to the Headquarters system, to be
  74.         accompanied with a notification message via netmail.  Do *not*
  75.         attach the file to the message.
  76.  
  77.     3)  Upload of the file and entering of the description online on the
  78.         Headquarters system.  Contact the Headquarters administrator for
  79.         information about this method.  This is in general the least
  80.         preferred method.
  81.  
  82.     Regardless of which of the above methods is utilized, a voice telephone
  83.     number must be provided by the submitter for verification, as well as a
  84.     data telephone number if such is available.  The only exemption to this
  85.     requirement will be for those who care to establish a session level
  86.     password with the Headquarters system to be used for this purpose.

  88. DISTRIBUTION:
  89.  
  90.     This FDN is specifically allowed for distribution via nodelisted FidoNet
  91.     systems, the FidoNet Zone 1 Filebone, the FidoNet Zone 2 File Backbone
  92.     via 2:24/24, the Planet Connect system, and InterNet anonymous-FTP from 
  93.     ftp.fidonet.org  Distribution by other means, such as private TBBS 
  94.     networks, is generally encouraged and will normally be allowed upon 
  95.     request to TBB FDN Headquarters.  Gating, porting, or distribution of 
  96.     this FDN via other methods or entities, either within or without FidoNet,
  97.     is not allowed without prior approval of the Headquarters administrator.  
  98.     Any system that wishes to participate in or distribute this FDN must 
  99.     agree to these rules.

  101. GENERAL RULES/STANDARDS:
  102.  
  103. 1)  Encrypted or encoded data (with certain very strict exceptions, such as,
  104.     for instance, demonstration "keys" for demo programs) will not be
  105.     distributed via this FDN.
  106.  
  107. 2)  Unless specifically stated otherwise, help and textual information
  108.     submitted for distribution via this FDN will be considered to be placed
  109.     in the public domain.
  110.  
  111. 3)  Programs may be compressed using any method preferred by the submitter,
  112.     provided only that a freely available decompression method exists.  All
  113.     compressed files will be named using the default extension of their
  114.     compression program.
  115.  
  116. 4)  The default language to be used within this FDN is English.  Any
  117.     information submitted in other languages, such as text, help, or
  118.     documentation files, must also include an English translation to be
  119.     eligible for distribution within this FDN.
  120.  
  121. 5)  All information, program, application, and data files transmitted via
  122.     this FDN will be transmitted in the same condition as they are received
  123.     from the originator or submitter.  No additional verification of
  124.     integrity or operability will be accomplished at the TBB FDN Hqs system
  125.     prior to distribution.

  127. DISCLAIMER:
  128.  
  129.     All information, program, application, and data distributed via The
  130.     Bread Board File Distribution System (TBB FDN) is distributed on an "AS
  131.     IS" basis only, without warranty.  Neither the TBB FDN, the TBB FDN
  132.     Headquarters system, its administrator, or any participant in the
  133.     distribution network shall have liability or responsibility to any
  134.     person or entity with respect to liability, loss, or damage caused or
  135.     alleged to be caused by or as a result of any information, program,
  136.     application, or data distributed.  This includes, but is not limited to,
  137.     an interruption of service, loss of business or anticipatory profits, or
  138.     consequential damages resulting from the use of any such information,
  139.     program, application, or data.
  140.  
  141. The TBB FDN Headquarters administrator reserves all rights to determine the
  142. whether or not any specific item submitted for distribution is appropriate
  143. for this FDN and whether or not such will be distributed; and to make
  144. exceptions, amendments, or modification to these rules based on his sole
  145. discretion.
