- TBB: The Bread Board File Distribution System
- General Information - updated 19 May 94
-
- The Bread Board File Distribution System (TBB) was created for the explicit
- purpose of providing a service to operators of The Bread Board System*
- (TBBS) Information Manager, a product of eSoft, Inc., (c) Philip L. Becker.
-
- As of this writing, TBB FDN consists of the following file areas:
-
- AREA: TBB_APPS - Public Domain, Freeware, and Shareware applications
-
- This area is designed for distribution of fully functional software
- applications, including both those that are specific to TBBS and its
- related option modules, as well as those that while not specifically
- designed for use with TBBS do in fact prove useful to its operators.
-
- AREA: TBB_DEMO - Demonstration programs, not fully functional
-
- This area is designed for distribution of demonstration packages that
- are in some manner less than fully functional, but for which fully
- functional versions may be obtained by registration.
-
- AREA: TBB_INFO - Text, Info, and Help files, as well as TBB FDN admin info
-
- This area is designed primarily for text, information, and help files
- that may be of general interest, including such items as tips and
- techniques, "how I did it", etc. This area may also include catalogs
- and current price lists from various sources including third party
- authors, distributors, and/or commercial vendors. Extended descriptions
- and information text about files distributed in other areas may also
- appear here as they are made available, and the area will also be used
- for such FDN administrative information as may be necessary from time to
- time.
-
- AREA: TBB_SUBS - Upstream to TBB FDN Headquarters for distribution
-
- This area is to be used for submissions upstream to TBB FDN headquarters
- for distribution. See additional information below concerning
- submissions.
-
- ECHO: TBB4SALE - Administrative conference, including announcements.
-
- This is the adminstrative echomail conference for this FDN, as well as
- an "open market" for advertisements from or of interest to TBBS system
- operators. For complete information, see TBB4SALE.RUL included within
- the same archive as this file.
-
- SUBMISSIONS:
-
- It is preferred that all submissions be made by the developers/authors
- of the application/information to be distributed. It is understood that
- this may not be possible in all cases, especially those which are
- "adopted" from other software platforms. In these instances, any
- submission *must* include an information file with the name and valid
- network address of the submitter and a statement of the status of the
- program - public domain, freeware, shareware, or commercial with open
- distribution allowed.
-
- Applications or text files of any kind that may be considered to be
- illegal will NOT be distributed. Those who submit such files will be
- asked to immediately cease such activity, and may also be reported to
- appropriate law enforcement agencies. This restriction specifically
- includes any transfer of hacked, pirated, or otherwise illegally
- obtained items, as well as any programs or text that contains material
- that may be considered to be pornographic in nature.
-
- Submission may be accomplished via:
-
- 1) Use of the TBB_SUBS upward file distribution chain. This is the
- preferred method.
-
- 2) Fidonet compatible file transfer to the Headquarters system, to be
- accompanied with a notification message via netmail. Do *not*
- attach the file to the message.
-
- 3) Upload of the file and entering of the description online on the
- Headquarters system. Contact the Headquarters administrator for
- information about this method. This is in general the least
- preferred method.
-
- Regardless of which of the above methods is utilized, a voice telephone
- number must be provided by the submitter for verification, as well as a
- data telephone number if such is available. The only exemption to this
- requirement will be for those who care to establish a session level
- password with the Headquarters system to be used for this purpose.
-
- DISTRIBUTION:
-
- This FDN is specifically allowed for distribution via nodelisted FidoNet
- systems, the FidoNet Zone 1 Filebone, the FidoNet Zone 2 File Backbone
- via 2:24/24, the Planet Connect system, and InterNet anonymous-FTP from
- ftp.fidonet.org Distribution by other means, such as private TBBS
- networks, is generally encouraged and will normally be allowed upon
- request to TBB FDN Headquarters. Gating, porting, or distribution of
- this FDN via other methods or entities, either within or without FidoNet,
- is not allowed without prior approval of the Headquarters administrator.
- Any system that wishes to participate in or distribute this FDN must
- agree to these rules.
-
- GENERAL RULES/STANDARDS:
-
- 1) Encrypted or encoded data (with certain very strict exceptions, such as,
- for instance, demonstration "keys" for demo programs) will not be
- distributed via this FDN.
-
- 2) Unless specifically stated otherwise, help and textual information
- submitted for distribution via this FDN will be considered to be placed
- in the public domain.
-
- 3) Programs may be compressed using any method preferred by the submitter,
- provided only that a freely available decompression method exists. All
- compressed files will be named using the default extension of their
- compression program.
-
- 4) The default language to be used within this FDN is English. Any
- information submitted in other languages, such as text, help, or
- documentation files, must also include an English translation to be
- eligible for distribution within this FDN.
-
- 5) All information, program, application, and data files transmitted via
- this FDN will be transmitted in the same condition as they are received
- from the originator or submitter. No additional verification of
- integrity or operability will be accomplished at the TBB FDN Hqs system
- prior to distribution.
-
- DISCLAIMER:
-
- All information, program, application, and data distributed via The
- Bread Board File Distribution System (TBB FDN) is distributed on an "AS
- IS" basis only, without warranty. Neither the TBB FDN, the TBB FDN
- Headquarters system, its administrator, or any participant in the
- distribution network shall have liability or responsibility to any

- alleged to be caused by or as a result of any information, program,
- application, or data distributed. This includes, but is not limited to,
- an interruption of service, loss of business or anticipatory profits, or
- consequential damages resulting from the use of any such information,
- program, application, or data.
-
- The TBB FDN Headquarters administrator reserves all rights to determine the
- whether or not any specific item submitted for distribution is appropriate
- for this FDN and whether or not such will be distributed; and to make
- exceptions, amendments, or modification to these rules based on his sole
- discretion.
